Once the waves push over about a metre the shore-break and rips build quickly.
Low tide exposes the sandbar and widens the beach, the beach can get busy on sunny weekends, and the patrol zone plus nearby cafés and parks make it a straightforward day-trip beach rather than a remote surf mission.
